In the history of European art, the Danish avant-garde artist Asger Jorn (1914 - 1973) is known as a restless networker. Not only was Jorn a central figure in the international Cobra movement (1948 - 1951), involved in the transnational exchange of unconventional experiments and ideas, but he was also a co-founder of the Situationist International (1957 - 1972), which combined art and politics in a revolutionary and activist aesthetic approach. In his search for new and universal pictorial solutions, Jorn reactivated modern painting and older art-making methods such as weaving and pottery.

Jorn's life and art were shaped by his encounters and interactions with many other artists. Not only his Danish and Scandinavian idols and colleagues from the 1930s and 1940s were part of his vast network, but also a large number of other European post-war avant-gardists worked with Jorn, inspired him or were inspired by his art.

The exhibition Asger Jorn and Friends presents a selection of works by Jorn's fellow artists, placing them in dialogue with Jorn's own production. In collaboration with Museum Jorn in Silkeborg, a variable number of loans will be made available to put the work of another group of artists into perspective. This could be further works from the Jorn Museum, which has over 30.000 works by more than 600 artists, but also objects from other collections. The curatorship, together with experts from the partner institution, could provide a tailor-made solution to activate undiscovered treasures.
