Born in Morocco in 1975, Abdelkader Benali, a Dutch writer, performer and lecturer, is also an passionate collector of contemporary art from both Morocco and the Moroccan diaspora in Europe (France, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands). In 2022, Benali co-curated the first and much acclaimed exhibition of Moroccan modern and contemporary art at the Cobra Museum of Modern Art in The Netherlands: The Other Story, Moroccan Modern Art 1956-present. He wrote a personal literary publication for the exhibition with the same name.

Abdelkader Benali: My first art purchase was a large drawing by Sidi el Karchi. Fifteen years later, the collection has grown to include photographs, paintings, drawings, watercolours, sculptures, and writings, including a special collection of catalogues by Moroccan artists - the collection is organised around three themes: we are all family, inside/outside and fragmented existence. The works are a sample of the beauty created by a generation of artists of Moroccan origin. It is a great honour for me to share this with the public.

A lively programme of tours, lectures and other events can be organised around the exhibition by the curator, Benali, and his artistic, culinary and performing friends and colleagues.
