Yolanda Andrade (Mexico, 1950) is a Mexican photographer who studied at the Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester, New York. She has received grants from Mexican cultural institutions and from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation (1994). After starting as a cinema still photographer and as a freelancer for several magazines, she dedicated her work to street life, urban landscapes and the experience of “wandering alone” (as she untitled her most recent photo-book), with a testimonial and critical focus. She has exhibited in many one-woman and group shows in Mexico, the USA, Asia, and Europe. She has published eight monographic books since 1988 to 2024.
Her photographs are part of important museums and private collections, in Mexico and abroad.​

​It is mainly in Mexico City where Yolanda Andrade “discovered an endless parade of humanity playing out their fates through a post-apocalyptic time that runs backward and forward simultaneously”, wrote K. Mitchell Snow in her book Mexican Passion (Mexico, 2002). In her baroque chronicles that fight the yielding misery folklore commonly assigned to Latin American photography, fiction and reality merge in apparently ordinary scenes that refer to everyday life in many spheres of a marvellous chaos, from the social to the spiritual: popular heroes, religious worship, imaginary still life, LGBT+ portraits, Women’s Day protests, savage nights.

This exhibition, which is structured in four sections, includes about 50 (fifty) photographs. Most of them are vintage and are owned by the artist. They will travel unframed.
